Bietola da costa di Fasano

This chard is mainly cultivated in the countryside of Fasano (BR) in southern Italy and in some neighbouring towns. The plants stand upright and are shorter and more compact than other types of chard. The bright green leaves are characterized by an oval-lanceolate shapre and the presence of a whitish petiole that is less fleshy and pronounced than the most common types of chard on the market. Cultivation can take place by direct sowing or by transplanting. Often the seeds are produced by the farmers themselves. Locally, the chard is harvested and tied in bundles.

Coltivata i prevalenza nell’agro di Fasano (BR) ed in alcuni paesi limitrofi. Le piante si presentano con portamento eretto, sono più basse e compatte rispetto ad altre tipologie di bietole da coste. Le foglie sono caratterizzate da un lembo ovale-lanceolato di un colore verde brillante e dalla presenza di un picciolo biancastro, meno carnoso e pronunciato rispetto  alle tipologie di bietole da coste più comunemente diffuse sul mercato. La messa a coltura può avvenire per semina diretta o per trapianto. Spesso il seme è autoprodotto dagli stessi agricoltori.
