The red onion of Acquaviva has been on the list of traditional Apulian products since June 2002. It has rounded bulbs with a characteristic flattened shape. The size of the bulbs are highly variable, with a tendency of being medium to large – bulbs often weigh more than 500 grams, with some specimens exceeding one kilogram. They are sold in various ways, including in the traditional form of braids – the classic “serte” – where the bulbs are intertwined with leaves or other vegetable fibres.

La cipolla rossa di Acquaviva è nell’elenco dei prodotti tradizionali pugliesi dal giugno 2002. Ha bulbo rotondeggianti schiacciati ai poli, con una caratteristica forma appiattita. Le dimensioni dei bulbi sono molto variabili, ma con tendenza ad essere medio grandi, in quanto spesso si riscontrano bulbi che pesano più di 500 gr. Con esemplari che possono superare il chilogrammo. Possono essere commercializzati in vari modi tra cui nella forma tradizionale delle trecce, le classiche “serte” , dove i bulbi sono intrecciati con loro con fgolie o altre fibre vegetali.
